Day 1506

Here are the “Double W Boys”! Sam on the left with Charlie in front of Hank (I think). The two pups are so identical that we all have trouble telling them apart. The best indicator is that Hank has “crimpy hair” behind his ears!

Sam, Gus and Ranger are amazing guardians for the puppies. When playing together, they are gentle and also show incredible patience when it comes to toys and food. Charlie and Hank are learning to share, but need plenty of grace from their older brothers! Dogs are not all that different than human children.

We have had a black bear walking around the area up at our cottage. Simply meandering and minding its own business, it does give one pause at the thought of a run-in. After all, having a civil discussion, if there might be a meet-and-greet, would not be probable!

The other day, dear Asher wanted to take a walk so we headed down the road. After a bit, he remembered hearing us talk of the bear and he asked me a couple questions…

Asher: “Hey Nanny! Is there a bear out here somewhere?”

Nanny: “Well, yes, there does seem to be one in the area.”

Asher: (placing his hand in mine). “Nanny! What would you do if he jumped out at us right now?!?!”

Nanny: “Hmmm… I would place you behind me and try to look BIG. I would shout at it and tell it to go away!”

Asher: “At least you have a plan…I feel safer now.” (His hand remained glued to mine!)

There is something within us, whether two or four-legged grownups, that will protect our young. What a beautiful trait adults hold in their hearts! Hopefully, this Nanny won’t have to put that trait to the test!
