Day 1519
Devotion is such a nebulous concept. The Golden Halo exhibits it frequently, but it is hard to define. After looking at a few examples, my favorite was…
Devotion: the act of dedicating oneself to a person, cause or belief. It encompasses profound love, unwavering loyalty and selfless commitment.
Well, that certainly was written with dogs in mind, but what about people? There are certain roles such as parent, grandparent and spouse that certainly fit under that umbrella. Others, such as children and grandchildren are on the fast track to devotion as they observe their elders exhibiting acts of unselfish love on their behalf. Hopefully, they will grow up to be just as devoted to their own loved ones.
There are times when human nature interferes with our plan to be unselfishly devoted to that person, cause or belief. Survival of the fittest would direct us to put ourselves first and then tend to those we love. Surprisingly, that natural instinct is irradiated by something bigger than our own needs… love.
The Golden Boys model that devotion each and every day. Humbling as it is, even they slip once in a while. I am still waiting for one of them to take a Milk Bone, but gently place it back in my hand nudging it towards me, because their devotion and love are that strong. What is that old saying about “when pigs fly”? I guess we all have room to grow in the “devotion department!”
