Day 1521

Our two pups are certainly growing fast! Potty training is done, obedience training has started and eating routines are well established. Sleeping through the night is a success and sweet personalities are blossoming into incredible additions to our Therapy Dog family. There’s only one problem…it is still hard to tell them apart!

Being diligent about who has finished their meal, gone potty and had their walk takes a bit of attention. Late at night, for the last “call,” I sometimes get confused who has already been out! Even though their faces are becoming more distinctive, in the dark, I still have no clue!

It seems our identities are pretty important in this life. Being recognized and called by name, warms the heart. Having someone remember a fact about your life is a day-brightener and someone sharing a long-forgotten memory can make you feel special. Validating our very existence is life-giving.

Knowing how it feels to be “recognized,” it seems like we can brighten the world by letting others know they matter. Compliments, approval, sharing meaningful memories and other conscious efforts to boost someone’s spirt is always worth a little bit of extra effort. Seeing someone smile, because you made them feel special shines back onto your own heart as well.

As the pups gain their individuality, their gifts will become more evident. Then, their training will be so much easier. They already love praise and now their sweet demeanors can shine brighter when they hear praise for true attributes. People are not that much different…
