Day 1563

This has been one of those days!

Mess #1: Early this morning, I opened the pups’ kennel door and was greeted by “clouds of fluff!” They had decided to GUT their sleeping quilt!

Mess #2: Once again, the “Dynamic Duo” decided to roll in a patch of wet, mud by the fence!

Mess #3: This time, I was the star when I dropped my Nanny’s recipe box into the dog’s water bowl!

#3 was the worst as those recipes are cherished! I had that box out and recipes drying in seconds! The silver lining was that it was about time to revisit that little box and now I had no choice!

Old recipes have a charm all their own. Descriptive, personal and “old school,” terminology made the cooks come to life. I found names of family/friends, dishes I would never try and adorable mentions of “a pinch of this,” “desired consistency“ and “sift together” that made me smile. These women (They were all females) took such pride in delivering a wonderful meal to the dinner table and were probably successful every time.

Serendipity (and dog bowl water) brought these recipes to my attention. They would have sat in that box for a long, lonely time, but now, they are in the light of day and drying on top of the washing machine. I will read each and honor the writer as I place them back when they have dried. It was almost as if an invisible hand nudged them off the counter so that they would gain the attention they deserve. After all, we ARE on the Anoka Ghost Tour!

If you need a recipe for “sour cream raisin pie” or “Mabel’s no-knead rolls”, I’m your gal!
