Day 1577
So… we KNEW what we were getting into with male littermates! 99% of the time they are loving brothers, but that 1% is something! They play fight until one of them goes a bit too far and then the fireworks commence! We know the exact moment to intercede as they give one last bark and come to our side with sweet, loving faces.
People seem to have the same propensity to push the envelope until the last second. Most retreat, but others need a peacemaker to calm frayed nerves! Being the buffer is not always rewarding!
In my life, I will avoid conflict at almost any cost! Straightening the rug out in front of someone is one of my Super Powers! I tend to foresee an altercation from miles away and move into action to sidetrack the train wreck. Humor, interjecting an anecdote, offering refreshments… you name it, I have tried them all. When my talents run dry, I simply stand back and let the parties work it out for themselves…perhaps that would be the best choice from the beginning!
Luckily, the last number of years have been flowing smoothly (my wonderful husband only needs a hug to bring a smile back to his face.), but there have been seasons when conflict has been unavoidable. In those instances, the best choice seems to be to dig into your empathy and try to really listen instead of forming the next response in your mind.
So, here’s to NO conflict in life! If it does arise, listen and search your heart for empathy. If that fails, it’s time to adopt a Golden! Nobody can be upset with one of those around!
