Day 1584

Charlie has chosen Ranger as his “safe dog." He often can be found tucking in next to the Big Guy and Ranger accepts the puppy…almost seems to enjoy the mentorship.

There are a number of “safe people” in my life. They are gifts to my heart and mind as I navigate life’s various challenges. These individuals are the ones I feel free to bare my soul and share what is within my heart. They are steady, empathetic and wise.

There have been one or two of these “safe people” who no longer fit the mold. Even though it might take years to build a foundation of trust, it does not take long to demolish that base. Without malice or anger, I release them from the bond we shared. It saddens me, but every relationship is supposed to build character and strength.

Of course, BEING that person for others is one of my Life Goals. Seemingly an easy accomplishment, it still takes commitment and selflessness. Empathy is my guide. When someone needs me, it is important to be there.

My Goldens are perfect models for this type of Safe Being. They remind me every single day what trust and devotion look like. They don’t even have to use words…they ate simply always there for me.

That is the key…always be there for those who deem you one of their “safe people.” It is an honor.
