Day 1585

Gus accompanied me to Walker today for a Therapy Dog visit. As we left, it occurred to me that we never can predict how an event will go. Some can be challenging while others are incredibly heart warming. It simply depends on the day and venue.

This morning, we started out by visiting my marching band director from the early 70s. We typically visit for awhile and then move on to others in the building. Today was different! As I sat down, he was already playing his “flute-a-phone” (recorder) and asked if I might join him in a duet. He had purchased a number of them and, putting one to my lips, I started playing. Reminding him that, after all, I played percussion in band, he accepted my attempts and we sounded pretty good!

Next, we headed down the way and ran into multiple folks who wanted to pet Gus and talk about their own dogs. Mostly sweet stories, I was happy to stop at each opportunity.

Finally approaching The Monroe Room, we set up shop to have residents come to us. It was calm and rewarding. Gus knows some of these people well and placed his head in many a lap. Sweet boy…

As we left, I realized that there were no newsworthy visits. Every one of them held a special moment and I walked back out the door with a grateful heart. This “job” is beautiful!
