Day 1601
Tonight is our annual “Creepy Camp!” Each year, we plan special events that follow a family dinner at The Big White House. Tonight, we are walking through a “haunted house/yard” and taking on the “Flashlight Maze” in a neighboring town. Special hats, special decorations, special people and special “memories-in-the-making!
I absolutely love to create a setting for a special memory. Food, decorations, gifts/tokens, and loved ones gathered together to celebrate make an event into something special. These moments in time take a bit of energy and commitment from yours truly, but it is a true labor of love.
My mom was such an incredible model for me to follow. Being a bit on the theatrical side, she would embrace something to celebrate and go the extra mile! Remembering back to her creative, generous spirit, my heart is warmed. Actually, I believe that is why she would put on an extravaganza for each event. It was not pride or a chance to flaunt her talents…it was to warm the hearts of those she loved.
Heading into the holiday season, we all get the chance to “make memories” with those we love. Creating the avenue for beautiful experiences is a gift we can pass on to future generations. Hanging black lace spider webs from the chandelier, putting up that fourth Christmas tree, playing the music of the season and every other traditional memory-maker is worth the effort. It not only brings joy, it solidifies the family…and that is worth every trip up those basement stairs with an armload of cherished traditions.
