Day 1610
581 Therapy Dog visits. What a life he lived…not to mention the years we shared when I wasn’t on the other end of the leash.
Healing takes time, but we now can smile at the memories instead of constantly reliving his last hours. Grief is such an individual journey. The messages, cards and beautiful gifts/flowers have helped as we navigate the loss of the leader of the Golden Boys. The absolutely pure love he offered makes the parting so visceral.
Whether it was sitting with someone at the end of life, knowing who had the treats stashed (and where) or placing his paw in our hands, our boy was endearing. So thankful for the many people who loved him right back. He was the “OG” of the pack, but now Gus is trying to fill those huge paw prints. He had a great mentor to follow.
The saying goes, “Don’t be sad because it’s over…be happy that it happened.” We are moving in that direction and feel so blessed to have had that big guy as part of the family. We believe Lilly was there to greet him at the Rainbow Bridge and that brings peace to our hearts.
