Day 1152

This girl has a stubborn streak! When we walk, she ONLY goes where SHE wants to go! Any urging to follow Mommy is met with “attitude” and the brakes are engaged. She refuses to move until we go HER way. Of course, I comply and make this senior girl happy!

There have been people in my world who have displayed the same type of “streak." From my own family, colleagues at work and other walks of life, dealing with those who have “put their foot down,” is a common occurrence. The tricky part is deciding when to take your own stand. Being a “people pleaser,” I always attempt to avoid conflict whenever possible. Having said that, there are certainly times when defending your stance is necessary and appropriate.

My choice is to lead a discussion with a gentle flow and make my point with information to back my stance. It goes well that way and, at the very least, a compromise is usually the result. My belief is that meeting somewhere in the middle is a win for all!

With Lilly, that does not work, so I relinquish my power and allow her to make all the choices. I do not regret that path for a second!
