Day 1181
Our Gus was amazing at the "Back to the '50's" event at Norbella. When we arrived, there were old cars, tie-dye stations, games, food galore AND Elvis! The only thing missing was a Golden, so our Gus moved right in and joined the party!
Watching these amazing people reach back into their long lives to pull up memories from their past touched my heart. Individuals from Memory Care were singing every lyric with Elvis, smiles were on every face and there were no sad or unhappy elders in the group. I stopped to think about that...
What it finally comes down to is these seniors were being honored and time was being spent with them as the focus. They weren't trying to fit in or be rolled through the door to watch from an out-of-the-way corner. They sat there as the center of attention. Families had joined the mix, activities had been designed so that they could all be involved and the theme was the soundtrack of their lives.
To make them be the focus, instead of a tag-along, was a beautiful experience indeed. Daughters and sons, grandchildren, friends and a Golden only had eyes for these amazing souls...and the elders knew it. What a wonderful day for all!
