Day 1363
Happy Valentine’s Day from the Halo (Charlie and Hank pictured)! There is certainly a lot of love from our Goldens on this day, also from our children. We received flowers, cards, gifts, and a field trip to create beautiful glass hearts. We are blessed! A day to celebrate love is always a winner in my book!
Looking back in time, this day holds many memories, the earliest as a young student at Lincoln Elementary. We would painstakingly create a masterpiece of hearts out of a shoebox, carve out a slot on top for cards, and place our name proudly on display. Then, we would choose cards for everyone in our class and sign our names. Carefully selecting the right card for each classmate, we never considered the idea that nobody really looked at them; they only ripped, glanced, and checked for candy, then tossed them. It was glorious!
In sixth grade, our wonderful, eccentric teacher had the idea that 12-year-olds were ready for romance. She was wrong! Taking paper hearts, zigzagging a cut to separate them in half, and writing a name (boy/girl) on each side of the matched set, she handed them out. We were to find our “Valentine” to match up our individual severing of the paper hearts. Once that was accomplished, she announced we would enjoy our refreshments while sharing a desk with our “buddy.” It must have been some experience, because I vividly remember squeezing into one desk and rushing through my goodies to get away as soon as possible! She meant well!
Here’s to a day of love with 364 more to follow! Happy Valentine’s Day!
