Day 1385

Hank feels absolutely safe with Ranger. He knows his big brother will not hurt him from behind and also must feel a sense of protection as Ranger surveys his surroundings. That puppy is in “safe paws!”

We all have “safe people” who we trust implicitly. These individuals have always been honest, supportive and caring. If we have a problem, there is a good chance that a well-beaten path is evident to their door. These friends are priceless.

The important thing to remember is to make sure it is a two-way path. If that friend needs us, we must reciprocate that support. A relationship like that digs deeper into the foundation of that friendship and solidly cements it. The problem sometimes arises when one party has a hard time asking for and accepting that support. There are those who feel it is an imposition to ask for help. It has been a challenge for me.

Eventually, however, I began to realize it is a gift to be needed. What a wonderful feeling it is to be needed. It always warms my heart when someone trusts me enough to ask for support. I finally came to realize that, when I need help, it can be a gift to ask someone to be that trusted friend.

If we could just all feel as safe as little Hank when he knows Ranger “has his back”. Although our human brains won’t let us feel totally safe, it is perfectly fine to ask for support when we are in need. Remembering the feeling when we are trusted to be that safe person, it is a gift to reciprocate.
