Day 1386
Hank and Charlie went to Lincoln Elementary to brighten a few lteachers' day.. It was a “work day”, so there were only adults in the building. The announcement was made about puppies in the conference room and a flow of educators came through the door. Many sat on the floor, some picked them up…all of them were able to touch our sweet boys. You could almost feel the teachers' stress dissipate! Our pups were doing their job well!
With Mr. Mac guarding the exit, we allowed them to run free in the room. The two litter mates went from person-to-person and connected with a paw, collapsing on a lap, a lick to the face or just a comical motion that brought smiles. Puppies never fail to lighten a load or brighten a room.
As I glanced around the circle of staff members, I realized I was looking at some of the most caring, devoted, hard-working people on earth. Having been in their shoes for 34 years as an elementary school teacher and hearing teacher stories as a college professor, I know what they face each day. I often compare it to the old circus act where a performer placed plates on rods and kept them spinning. As each new plate joined the line up, the previous pl as yes needed to be kept spinning as well. I had the utmost respect for everyone in that room and empathized with each heart…”Super-heroes without capes!”
As for my little boys, the promise was made that, in a year or so, Hank and Sam would return as full-fledged Therapy Dogs. They showed incredible promise today! In the meantime, we have been asked to return and spend more “snuggle time” with the staff as the pups grow up. We can’t wait!
