Day 1422

Adventures are the best! When you have one with a cousin, it’s even BETTER! Today, after Gus received his expected treat from Cousin Jill, we headed to the elevators to go back to work at our respective spots. The ride, first down and then up, seemed doomed as we headed up and stopped at each floor! An employee was with us when I mentioned that it was too bad we couldn’t keep going up to the Heliport. With his rank, he told me he could make that happen! What a thrill…well Gus wasn’t too happy, but we sure were!

Gus paid me back on our afternoon walk when a man zoomed by on an electric scooter with an unleashed dog and a toddler strapped to his back! Gus backed out of his collar and took a notion to follow the entourage! Training won out when my recall brought him right back! This time, Gus had the thrill and I was the unhappy one! Whew…it all ended well!

Adventures can certainly excite, frighten, delight or astonish a person. Regardless, they are a part of life. Whether you plan them or they take you by surprise, adventures will always change your life.

One planned adventure took place when I was young and somewhat fearless. My beloved Marlene and I were dreaming about Disney World when she walked over to the landline (It WAS a long time ago!!!) and started making phone calls. Before I knew it, we had bus passes, hotel reservations and a plan to go to Atlanta, St. Augustine and Disney World! In our late teens, we set off and had a true adventure!!! That trip shifted something within and made me stronger, braver and more open to future exploits!

Now, over 50 years later, I still enjoy adventures but of the milder variety! Adding two puppies to the family is more my speed these days!
