Day 1424

This morning, Charlie and Hank went to ease some stress for employees at Walker Senior Living. Gus and Sammy visit each week with residents, but today was for the staff. So many smiles, so many wagging tails, and so much love. Those pups already know how to work a crowd!

Even though we snuck in a few resident visits, it was great to have time with the staff. Passing in the halls, we rarely have an opportunity for more than a “Hello” or “How’s your day going?” before we part ways. Hearing about their lives was a treat.

When we are at Mercy, elementary schools or other venues, the staff is under so much pressure. Because we visit places where the people in charge are often caretakers, their jobs have huge elements of selfless giving. We frequently see staff members who have given so much of themselves that they are almost running on empty. Therapy Dogs seem to give them all a “second wind” and the chance to recharge and face their world again. Watching their faces light up when we say, “Thank you for what you’re doing”, is a true joy.

Appreciation and a couple Therapy Dogs can help any work day turn from gloomy to happy. Even without a furry friend, you can make someone’s day so much better with an unexpected “Thank you for what you do!”
