Day 1426
We headed to the veterinarian’s office for our final puppy shots this morning. The boys were inquisitive, but nervous. Weighing in at 42 pounds each, they were the picture of health! We were far more grateful with the findings than the pups were…they just wanted to go home!
Home for them is The Big White House. It holds their toys, beds, food bowls and everything they know and love. Beyond that, it is where their people and Golden Halo can be found. When we entered the house, you could almost see them relax. I put a fresh quilt in their bed and they crawled in to take a nap. They felt safe.
Feeling safe is essential for humans as well. Beyond the lovely feelings of warmth, lack of fear and familiar comfort, we have our people close by. For me, once I soak in the ambiance, my mind is freed to plan, process and be productive. When my brain has any semblance of angst floating around, I do not function as well and my thoughts become scattered. “Home” allows me to slow down and let my brain do its work.
Dogs must be the same. The puppies are now asleep at my feet while the older ones surround them like a fortress. They exude calm and security. Of course, their little brains are probably dreaming of their next treat or meal! That’s OK… they had a big morning!
