Day 1432
People often ask whether our dogs all get along. My answer is always a resounding “YES!” Perhaps it’s the breed, but I like to think unconditional love has played a part as well. They know their humans love them, they feel safe and their needs are met. Who wouldn’t be amiable to others?
Charlie and Hank have a special bond, but they often choose to snuggle with one of their older brothers. As for Ranger, Sam and Gus, they seem to have accepted their young charges with open paws. I am beyond grateful for that!
Comparing this to humans, even when their needs are all net, I see a stark difference. From the young to the middle-aged, it often seems like there is an extra “need” for more. More “things,” more “new and exciting experiences,” more “unique food experiences”… just more. I know I was part of that group along life’s journey.
Now, as a senior citizen, I want less of everything except time. Time to slow the journey and really appreciate the gifts that are right in front of me. These treasures are not to be gathered…only savored. Family, friends, a beautiful sunset, sitting by the lake and other experiences that are not “new,” but need time to be truly relished.
Perhaps I can learn one more lesson from my Golden Boys…truly appreciate what money can’t buy!
