Day 1433

Day 1433. “Walking With Goldens”

Ranger and Gus have such an attachment to each other. Having many of the same “heart traits” draws them close. Both are loving, calm and accepting. In a little over a month, Ranger will turn thirteen while Gus will soon be five… both are old souls.

Even though they are kindred spirits, Ranger is a show golden while Gus is a field golden. The first is bred for beauty, with a little retrieval thrown in for good measure. The field golden is bred for hunting. Gus has shorter fur, a wispy tail and the “bay” of a hound dog. However, our sweet boy is also deathly afraid of thunder and gun shots…he would never have been a great hunting companion! Both love unconditionally.

There are times in life when we choose a companion who looks and presents so differently from our own visage. We might have different styles, goals and personalities, yet we are drawn to them like a moth to a flame. Friends, like these, bring a new energy to life. They open up doors we did not even see. They are cherished as much as friends who mirror our regular life expectations.

Gus and Ranger display many differences, but deep down, are perfectly synched by having the same beautiful hearts. For me, the heart is the true test of a lasting, meaningful friendship…and, of course, they must LOVE dogs!
