Happy Mother’s Day to all of the Mamas of the two- and four-legged variety!

Last night, at about 4 a. m., I turned over in bed and noticed that my phone had just lit up with a message. Planning to check it in the morning, so I wouldn’t awaken dogs or husband, I fell back into a restless sleep and had a number of dreams about the sender.

First, my dreams turned to friends and family who might be sharing my slightly sleepless night. Three, in particular, waltzed through my heart. My own “littles”, who are now grown and meeting the challenges of life on their journeys entered my dreams. I remember feeling the need to reach out and help them… like when they were young. Oh, how I wish I could smooth the road ahead.

Shaking myself slightly awake, I headed into another semi-dream of someone in my past who I am no longer able to physically hug. There were smiles, a touch of the hand and a longing to see them once more. Again, I awoke and wished that there was a chance for a very long distance phone call or two. My heart misses those mamas (relatives and friends) who loved me well.

By now, the sun was just hinting at the day ahead and there was one more semi-dream. What if that message was from someone so loved in the past, but now was out of reach? That might have been the best one ever…

Strangely, when I checked my phone as I let the Goldens outside, there were no messages. I am certain that there was one in the night and now I wonder. My heart smiles with the possibilities.

For all the mothers who love, have loved and are separated from those they love… this is your day. Hoping there were many moments of joy, smiles and heart-warming encounters. Maybe you even had a surprise message one way or another! You deserve to be honored today!
