Day 1450
When Mama leaves, the “Halo of Goldens” is not pleased. Sometimes, a chosen pup goes along when the lanyard goes around her neck. Other times, bags, treats and leashes emerge and walks are anticipated. When she simply leaves, it is confusing. At least Daddy is home!
Today, daughter Katie is undergoing a foot surgery and her mama is in the waiting room feeling a bit helpless. I have recently noticed that, as your children mature and grow in independence, you cannot “fix everything” as you once did. For mothers, that is such a challenge.
When my kids were little, I had an arsenal of techniques to fix every “boo boo,” broken heart and defeated spirit. I could clear their confusion, hug away angst and go behind any scenes to navigate the situation and make some magic for a good outcome. All that “Mommy Power” slowly dissipated until I am reduced to simply being a cheerleader.
It’s hard to see any loved one walk through those doors…on two or four legs! Although my powers are diminished, I can still cheer from the waiting room and send so many prayers aloft. Perhaps, that has always been the best way to “fix things” in the first place!
