Day 1454
Oh, the absolute joy of being a child! Today, we left the pups in the capable hands of Jimmy and headed up to our cottage to “support” our neighbor while he installed mini-splits. His family joined us and, as our friendly technician needed little to no help, we headed down to the lake.
3 little boys + 1 lake + 2 fishing rods = JOY
Simply watching them trip through the water and then cast for fish without giving up (there were no fish to be seen). brought a rich joy to my heart. They didn’t need one electronic game, no screen time or any other device and yet they were engaged and so happy!
I couldn’t help but think of Charlie and Hank when they run for the simple thrill of the chase. They don’t need toys or treats when they are running for the sheer delight of the moment.
Watching our young charges at the lake today made me realize that their entire bodies were engaged in the moment. Movement, creativity, no competition in sight and displaying happiness at the very turn. No disagreements, kindness abounding and laughter filling the air highlighted the day. Perhaps the purest form of joy comes from within.
