Day 1459
Gus loved every moment of his Therapy Dog visit today! Hanging out at senior living venues is a favorite pastime for our boy. As I watched him roll over on his back and fall asleep in the midst of a visit, I marveled at the fact that his trust level was so high. Then, it occurred to me that he had known nothing but love from his human family.
Humans aren’t that trusting. Of course, a newborn has infinite trust in the people around to keep them safe. The trust begins to chip away when their needs aren’t immediately addressed. Hungry, tired, diaper change needed…so many triggers can cause discomfort. Those “big people“ should be fixing things! Hmmmm… they are not to be totally trusted!
As we walk the pathways of life, we learn to trust those who are reliable, loving and empathetic. Through many demonstrations of support, that trust builds. Of course, one mistake can cause a crack in that foundation, but it CAN be patched and made strong again. Most of us have only a handful of people that can be trusted enough to always have your back.
What a beautiful world this could be if everyone could endlessly support the needs of others. Then trust would rule the earth! Perhaps a lesson from the Goldens is in order…
“Love those around you with all your heart and, just maybe, you can trust them to protect that heart.”
