Day 1504

All of our Golden Boys trust us implicitly. We are their “safe people” and they find comfort when they are frightened or uneasy. What an honor to be trusted in that way.

Of course, we trust them as well. They have never shown any aggression and only offer love. That two-way trust comes from the time we have spent together. We have gained each other’s trust after years of proving it is deserved.

To trust another, really trust at a visceral level, is rare these days. Whether two or four-legged, we live in a world where the media paints a dire picture of “the other”. Inundated with negative news, we tend to project the worst case scenario onto those we do not know well. I, for one, am fighting the urge to view people through a suspicious lens.

Blessed to have a wonderful circle of deeply trusted people (and dogs) surrounding me, I look to the next layer of people I know with an open mind and heart. Perhaps bordering on naïveté, I choose to think the best of others until proven otherwise. There have been a time or two when my openness has met with disappointment, but most all of the people I have opened my heart to have not disappointed!

Being grateful for those who share an infinite level of trust with me and being ready to welcome others into that ring of trust makes my world feel safe and hopeful. Perhaps I should avoid watching the news and turn my attention to “Dog TV” instead!
