Day 1523

The entire Golden Halo gets anxious when we pack for the cottage (It’s much worse when we prepare for the return trip!). They know that all of their necessities are organized amongst suitcases and “human things,” but they are never sure…it seems they are afraid to be left behind!

If we only had to pack for the two-legged family members, it would be a breeze! However, food, medicines, toys, leashes, collars, treats…they require more than the humans!

When I was younger, my family headed up to our cabin near Nisswa. Traveling about an hour away in that direction, we entered the town of “Becker” as my father asked who had our little Maltese, “Becky”! After a quick round of denials, we turned around and headed home. Poor little girl! She met us at the door and almost did a back flip! Cabin departure…Take 2! Now, we were complete!

Nobody wants to be left behind. Whether it is an adventure, a walk or any other event, not being included can be painful. It even applies to a playground, neighborhood gang or adult friends…we all want to belong. Perhaps it is some latent primal need to be safe from predators or warmed by the fire? Wherever it comes from, we all want to be included.

I attempt to make each Golden feel special and incorporate them in the pack. This is a goal for my “human packs” as well.

Hank wants to load the car, so I better get going…did I mention crates, ramps, special sleeping blankets, bones, stuffies? Yup! They do not travel light!
