Day 1531
Every morning our routine is the same. Morning greetings, outside, eat, peanut butter bones and Cheerios. Ranger keeps us right on track with a few barks and nudges. We seldom venture away from their expected morning ritual.
As I dispersed the peanut butter bones from oldest to youngest, I took a moment to really follow each one to their preferred “chew space”. Ranger gently grabs his and heads to the living room where he can get traction on the carpet. Gus apologetically takes his and hides under the dining room table. Sam wants his delivered as he sits in the kitchen. Hank grabs and digs in while Charlie takes his and finds Ranger…perhaps for security issues. They all chew for ten minutes or so (This practice is great for teeth!!) and then reconvene for the dispersal of Cheerios. Finally, they rest for a beat until Mommy and Sam head out on Walk #1. You can set your watch by us!
What I observed was how their personalities were displayed with the bones. It made me wonder about table seating for my family and a whole lot more! The researcher’s mind is never quiet!
Our habits certainly align with our personalities! For me, it might seem I am most like Charlie…participating in life, but seeking comfort and confirmation along the way.
At dinner, I sit in a chair on the side of the table so I can get up and serve people at the drop of a hat. The rest of the family always sits in their same chair and, with a closer glance, their personalities are exposed to a certain degree.
Look at your next family gathering, or remember back to your childhood and beyond. The table is very illuminating! At least we are not chewing on peanut butter bones!
