Day 1532
For whatever reason, Charlie has decided that he is “The Bone Collector!” After all the pups have enjoyed their peanut butter bones, he gathers them all and brings them to the sunroom. After collecting his hoard, he simply looks at them in a loving way. Perhaps it is not in the final display of bones, but in the gathering and keeping them close…just in case.
When Covid hit, I looked around The Big White House and thought, “I have been preparing for this event for years. The yarn, baking ingredients, canned goods, books and…you name it, I had it! We had family close by and weathered the storm. On the brink of a mini-hoarder, it all came in handy for me that time!
There are times when I blame my “gathering spirit” on my parents who went through The Great Depression. As a child, we wasted nothing and had a few reserve items on hand… just enough to see us through. Or, perhaps, it is a survival instinct from generations ago. Survival of the fittest?
Whatever drives me, I do “gather” with the best of them! Perhaps Charlie is following in my footsteps? Whatever makes Charlie and myself kindred gatherers, I have a saying. “If it’s not in The Big White House, you never really needed it in the first place!”
