Day 1533
I can still run!!!!! Having given that type of movement the retirement it truly needed, “it” came out of mothballs this morning when Charlie’s leash flew out of my hand on our walk! Poor baby…the more he ran, the harder the retractable leash slapped him as it caught on the grass and then “attacked” from behind when it was freed. He was running like an Olympian! As my life replayed before my eyes, I called his name, but was no competition for the “assault of the leash “! He ran a full block and then disappeared! As I sprinted through the neighborhood’s lawn to head him off, to my horror, he was nowhere to be found. Suddenly, I heard a small rustle from the neighbor's hedge. My Charlie was there with his leash caught in the bushes. It stopped his headlong rush into disaster! My gratitude was beyond description and I said a prayer of thanks as I scooped him up! One of the worst experiences of my life…but I discovered these legs can still move!
Today, as my heart is still so full of gratitude, I have begun to wonder what else I might still be able to do! As people “mature”, we start to wind down a bit. Less club meetings, fewer commitments, no rollerblading or tackle football…we protect our mobility like the precious commodity it is. Perhaps that is part of the wisdom we have attained through the decades and why we are still upright.
Whatever the reason, I might not close all the doors to adventure just yet! After all, I just ran an entire block like a racehorse! The best part is that Charlie is just fine!!!!
