Day 1559
Exercising with loved ones is the best medicine for “whatever ails you!” With a puppy along, it’s even better! Whether you need to work on your mind or body, getting that heart pumping is a good idea!
Asher was asking me how many times I had fallen, back in my rollerblading days. When I told him “Maybe five or six,” his mouth dropped before he followed up with…”Every time?” We both laughed, but I explained that I was much older and more cautious when I started. That kid falls in dramatic ways that make me pause and catch my breath every walk around the block! For me, starting in my late 40s, his “gymnastics” would have necessitated a 911 call!
With each tumble, I did some damage to my limbs, but never broke a bone (I saved that for dog walking!). They were dramatic and spectacular, but my guardian angel was watching out for me.
One time, when my twins were younger, we went to Elm Creek to skate (me) and bike (them). They were about ten and went a bit ahead. As I caught up, their waving hands and shouts of warning sent my attention directly ahead. Now, who would put a road for cars across the path? I chose to ditch into the grass… not pretty!
Another time, I came around a bend and headed down one of my favorite hills at the park. Standing near the bottom, right in the middle of the path, was the biggest buck I had ever seen! My thoughts…”Slide under? Push him in his side? Go behind and hit the ground?”…all flew through my mind in about five seconds. Miraculously, he walked off the tar seconds before I rolled by! Whew!
I jumped over snakes, skated beside a running doe and dodged a few rodents, but stayed upright for most of those encounters! Now, walking dogs is another story!
