Day 1574

Day 1574. “Walking With Goldens”

While the rest of the Halo was standing tall as they looked out over their domain, Gus chose to take a different view of the same vista. I even got down on the deck with my boy to see his panorama. Unlike his brothers, he had a more focused vantage point. That’s our Gus-Gus! While the others were scanning for something interesting to bark at, our five-year-old was more focused…

Humans can have similar views as they take in the world. Sadly, the majority of my waking hours are more of the “scanning variety” of taking in the world. My senses are always on “high alert” for anything that needs my tending. A noise, a smell or any other shift from the norm will catch my attention and immediate action. Pivoting on a dime is common for me and certainly gets in the way of a steady forward motion.

Gus, and his human counterparts, will focus on one thing until the need to look is abandoned. This allows our pup to consider the world more directly. Perhaps it is his sensitive nature, but he ponders his next move in-depth. People can be the same way. With a focus that is hard to break, I believe they see more layers to the world than I do.

Whether you are quick or slow to react as you journey through the maze we call life, it seems we might just need both types. To the Gus pups of the human world, thank you for keeping us somewhat grounded as the rest of us flit from flower to flower. After all, in our defense, if we didn’t help “pollinate” the flowers, there would be no roses to “stop and smell”!
